Sir Peter Cosgrove

Sir Peter Cosgrove recalls his experiences and contributions during Cyclone Tracy. At the time, Cosgrove was a young officer in the Australian Army. He was involved in the relief and recovery efforts following the devastating cyclone, which caused widespread destruction and loss of life.

Bob Dagworthy vividly recounts the tragic night Cyclone Tracy claimed the lives of two of his crew members. HMAS Arrow was one of the naval vessels caught in the storm and was smashed and then sunk. This tragic event highlighted the ferocity of Cyclone Tracy and the challenges faced by those involved in disaster response efforts.

Cyclone Warriors" commemorates the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy's devastating impact on Darwin by delving into the extraordinary role played by the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) and the emergency services during and after the disaster.

 

Through a blend of archival footage, expert interviews, and personal accounts, the documentary traces the lead-up to the catastrophic cyclone, the harrowing experiences of both residents, emergency services and ADF personnel during the storm's aftermath, and the monumental task of rebuilding the shattered city.

For the first time, Indigenous Territorians from communities like the Tiwi Islands and Belyuen will share their experiences, offering invaluable insights into their resilience and contributions to the recovery efforts.
